Our Philosophy

Dr. Jeff Voegtlin speaking

The mission of Fairhaven Academy is to produce growth in our students through friendships, excellence and Christian service

Growth
Fairhaven was founded as a specialty school focusing on life preparation for the individual student. In this context of a Christian academy, we seek to see each student develop individually and uniquely so that they will, with God’s help, grow into the likeness of His Son.

Friendships
We desire that each young person have a growing and personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. We desire that each student have proper relationships with his parents, peers and teachers. We believe that if a student is in a right relationship with God and those around him, then he can truly be in a right relationship with himself. These relationships also help young people to make the right choices during their high school years as they emerge from adolescence to the challenges of adult life.

Excellence
Excellence in God’s eyes is doing one’s best. As a young person experiences success from his or her best effort, even more effort is exerted toward continued success. We challenge students with excellence so that they can achieve the goal of doing their best in their academic pursuits, extra-curricular activities and in their service to others. A quality education is Bible-based, Christ-centered and one that challenges students to reach their full potential and develop godly wisdom in order to use their God-given abilities to impact their homes, churches and communities for Christ. Fairhaven will develop an entire educational program that is based on the truths of God’s Word and the preeminence of Jesus Christ. We will employ and develop teachers who model godly wisdom and Christian virtues in their lives and cultivate and nurture this in the lives of their students. We will use curriculum and methods in the classroom that reflect God’s truth and prepares students for a life of service for Christ. Fairhaven will provide an education where formal methods of instruction, are emphasized. We will challenge students to develop a biblical worldview so that they will be able to engage their generation for Christ. Fairhaven will provide a safe and comfortable learning environment where students are actively engaged and challenged in their learning. We will provide a curriculum that is defined by clear goals and high expectations so that students can achieve success that is measurable and clearly communicated.

Service
The witness of Jesus Christ who came “not to be served, but to serve” stands in stark contrast to a society often characterized by indulgence and self-gratification. We believe that only in following God’s call to service can one find true fulfillment. It is also in following that call to service that one can also demonstrate leadership. As a school, we attempt to teach this by serving the students that are entrusted to us. We then can challenge them to serve others in their home, church, school, and community.

God’s glory
As a Christian school, we too must measure every activity by this high standard. While other institutions of learning may hold out certain standards for relationships, excellence and service, we have the Holy Scriptures and the Holy Spirit to help us define these truths in terms of what will ultimately grow young lives to the glory of God.
